Mine Planner
DESCRIPTION
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mine Planner in the Sandton Head office with a strong background in geological modelling to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing mine plans, integrating geological data into mine designs, and optimising production processes in an underground mining environment. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of both mine planning principles and geological modelling techniques to ensure efficient and safe extraction of mineral resources.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Duties will include, but are not limited to the following:
1. Mine Planning and Design:
Develop comprehensive underground mining plans and designs that optimize ore extraction, considering geological constraints, safety measures, and economic factors
Collaborate with geologists to interpret geological information and integrate it into mine plans for efficient resource utilisation
Design mining methods, layouts, and sequences to maximise resource recovery and minimise operational risks
2. Resource Estimation and Reporting:
Prepare technical reports, including geological and mine planning documentation, for internal and external stakeholders
3. Collaboration and Communication:
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including geologists, engineers, and operational staff to optimise mine plans and resolve technical challenges
Communicate complex geological and mine planning concepts effectively to stakeholders at various levels within the organisation
4. Compliance and Safety:
Ensure mine plans comply with regulatory standards, environmental regulations, and safety protocols
Participate in safety audits, risk assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational safety
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Degree or higher in Mining Engineering, Geology, or a related field
Proven experience (3+ years) in underground mine planning
Strong knowledge of mine planning software (RPM Global - UGCS preferred)
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
Effective communication and teamwork abilities
Knowledge of relevant safety and environmental regulations
