Menar Golf Day a resounding success
In collaboration with its partners, Menar raised over a half a million rands through its Golf Day event to support projects focused on improving lives and creating lasting change.
Menar hosted a successful Golf Day at the Graceland Hotel, Casino and Country Club in Secunda, Mpumalanga, on Friday, 30 May. This highlight event brought together industry stakeholders, contractors, and mining industry professionals from across South Africa, united by a common cause of assisting communities. The R537 570 raised will go towards supporting initiatives for schools and non-profit organisations in the community where Menar has mining operations.
The title sponsors for the event included TWS Engineering, Babcock, Barloworld Equipment, Eickhoff, Komatsu, Opsicol, Ntabeni Logistics, Braintree, Gilberts Mining and Industrial and Electrical Supplies.
A total of 148 players and 37 teams participated in the tournament, competing in various categories, including closest-to-the-pin and longest-drive prizes. Participants teed off for a purpose, competing for a range of exciting prizes and trophies. The event was brought to life by a vibrant performance from Ubuhle Bekhona Lamazulu Traditional Dancers, setting the stage for the prize-giving ceremony.
Ntabeni Logistics walked away with the first-place four-ball for the day prize, while PR Mining won the auction bid for the 2025 Menar floating trophy and a full-page advert in the Mining Weekly Magazine. The floating trophy raised R50 000, adding to the pool of funds raised for community projects.
Speaking during the prize-giving ceremony, Menar Chairman Mpumelelo Mkhabela said the Golf Day builds on the legacy created through a similar event previously hosted by the company’s KwaZulu-Natal-based subsidiary, Zululand Anthracite Colliery (ZAC). With a successful six-year run, ZAC’s Golf Day positively impacted communities by supporting local schools with water infrastructure, educational implements, and renovations.
“We are expanding our mission to make a positive impact. Every swing, every putt and every donation will help us continue the critical work of assisting communities,” Mkhabela said. He thanked all sponsors for their invaluable contribution, adding that Menar looked forward to hosting the next Golf Day. “All of this would not have been possible without your involvement as valuable sponsors and partners,” Mkhabela concluded.
