Menar participates in McCloskey Coal, Steel & Ferroalloys Conferences

The Menar team participated in McCloskey’s Annual Southern African Coal Conference as well as the Steel & Ferroalloys Conference in Cape Town. Chairman Mpumelelo Mkhabela and Chief Commercial Officer Ruan Nothnagel took part in the Coal Conference.

In a panel discussion, Mkhabela highlighted how South Africa’s rule of law and strong judiciary provided a solid foundation for mining businesses to operate. Nothnagel shared key figures on the company’s plans to operate in the logistics space.

During the Steel & Ferroalloys Conference, Waheed Sulaiman, Menar's Head of Projects, joined Nothnagel to discuss beneficiation in Africa, as well as transport and logistics. Sulaiman emphasized that Africa should focus on minerals where it has a competitive advantage, such as manganese, cobalt, chrome, and PGMs. Nothnagel explained that the company decided to enter the rail logistics business with the establishment of Menar Ports and Rail as part of its diversification strategy. This move aims to alleviate logistical constraints while ensuring there is sufficient rail capacity to transport its products.
